Repeating a task over and over again over a long period of time can be hard and boring. However, in your judiciary preparation, consistency is an important prerequisite to achieve excellence in your performance.

In this blog, Team Ebzorb seeks to elucidate the importance of staying consistent with your preparation and brings practical tips to practise the same.

“Changes that seem small and unimportant at first will compound and turn into remarkable results if you’re willing to stick with them for years.”James Clear

The 1% Better Rule

James Clear in his book “Atomic Habits” argues that the power of staying consistent lies in the compounding effect of small improvements over time, the momentum that consistency builds, and the creation of a positive self-image that comes with consistent habit-building. By committing to small, consistent improvements, you can make significant progress towards your goals and create lasting change in your life.

The Japanese concept of “Kaizen” resonates to a large extent to the theory proposed by Clear.

The “1% better rule” is a concept introduced by James Clear in his book “Atomic Habits.” It states that the key to achieving long-term success and reaching your goals is to focus on making small, incremental improvements consistently over time. By striving to improve just 1% each day, you can gradually build up significant progress and momentum over time. Mathematically, when we try to improve ourselves by just 1% everyday for a year, we become 37 times better than our previous selves.

The idea is that by making small improvements every day, you can make gradual but sustainable progress towards your goals. Rather than trying to achieve big changes overnight, which can often be overwhelming and unsustainable, focusing on small improvements can help you establish positive habits and make consistent progress towards your desired outcome.

Applying the 1% Better Rule

Consistency in your preparation not only helps you to cover the vast syllabus but also stand out in your performance. Consistency is crucial in judiciary examination preparation for several reasons:

Retention of information

Consistency helps in retaining information better. Law is a vast subject, and there is a lot of information to be learned. Consistent study helps in retaining this information better and prevents cramming.

Better time management

Consistent study allows better time management. When you know that you have a consistent study routine, you can plan your day better and allocate time to study as well as other activities.

Develops discipline

Consistent study helps in developing discipline. Preparing for the judiciary examination requires discipline, and consistent study is an excellent way to develop this discipline.

Reduces stress

Consistent study helps in reducing stress. When you study consistently, you avoid last-minute cramming and the associated stress that comes with it.

Improves performance

Consistent study ultimately leads to better performance. By staying consistent in your preparation, you ensure that you cover all the topics thoroughly and are well-prepared for the examination.

Tips to Stay Consistent

Staying consistent in judiciary exam preparation can be challenging, but it is essential for success. Here are some tips that can help a judiciary aspirant stay consistent in their preparation:

Set achievable goals

Break down the preparation process into small achievable goals. This will help to avoid overwhelm and make it easier to stay consistent.

Create a study schedule

Create a study schedule and stick to it. Consistency requires discipline, and a study schedule will help to develop discipline.

Use a study planner

Use a study planner to track progress and ensure that all topics are covered before the exam.

Find a study group or mentor

Studying with a group or having a mentor can help to stay motivated and accountable.

Take breaks

Take regular breaks to avoid burnout. Consistency is important, but so is rest and recovery.

Practise previous year question papers

Practise previous year question papers to get an idea about the exam pattern and difficulty level of questions.

Stay motivated

Stay motivated by reminding yourself of the end goal and celebrating small successes along the way.

Avoid distractions

Avoid distractions such as social media and other non-study related activities during study time.

Seek feedback

Seek feedback from mentors or teachers to identify areas that need improvement and work on them consistently.

Staying consistent in your preparation is like watering a plant. You may not see any immediate growth but if you keep watering everyday, you will see how your sapling turns into a tree. Judiciary is not a race, it’s a marathon hence brace yourself accordingly. For the rest, trust the process and your preparation.
